About Prism

Prism Microsystems was established in the UK in 1993 by former employees of General Electric Medical System's Radiotherapy Products Design Engineering and Manufacturing Group.

Although Prism as a company started in 1993, our roots go back to 1978 with the development of the first commercially available CT-based Radiotherapy Treatment Planning System, EMIPLAN.

The team at Prism are all technically qualified staff, each with more than 15 years experience of working on Radiotherapy Treatment Planning Systems (TPS) and associated computerised medical imaging and network sub-systems. It is the team that designed, developed, manufactured, and supported all of GE Medical Systems TPS products, from RT/PLAN through Target and Target Series2 to Target2.

As Prism we continued this heritage under sub-contract to GEMS, producing the Target2 series of TPS and options for sale by GE Medical Systems worldwide. We provide a range of products and professional sevices, including software design development and validation, hardware systems integration, obsolescence removal and upgrade of legacy systems, manufacture of replacement parts, repairs, technical training of field service engineers and customer technicians, and remote technical support to field service engineers and users of these systems.

Since the transition of GE's radiotherapy business to Varian Oncology Systems, we have continued to supply the same products and technical services to Varian in support of the installed base.

Now that neither GE nor Varian are actively promoting this product, Prism can no longer remain quietly in the background, so now we are supporting end users directly with systems, upgrades, software maintenance, remote technical support, spares and parts repair programmes.

Our expertise in systems integration, software development, image networking, and technical support of UNIX based solutions is applied to other industries and markets. We use these skills to provide value added solutions in scientific, engineering, medical, and visualisation applications to the Manufacturing, Health Care, Education, and Goverment industries.

Prism is a Sun Workgroup Computing Certified Reseller, selling, integrating, testing and supporting the complete range of Sun hardware and software.

Prism is also a GTCO (formerly Kontron) digitiser reseller and distributor, supplying and maintaining digitisers, not only for GE's Target but also Varian's and Nucletron's TPS. We also supply digitiser solutions to CAD/CAM, Architecture, Construction,Surveying and local Goverment industries.
